There are as many opinions about money as people on the planet! So what do we believe?
We are under no pressure to sell you anything. Of course this is a business, but we are not in a hurry, and we are not subject to pressure to grow profits as a corporation would be.
It's an unexciting topic in general. Most people don't really like reading about this topic. For most it's boring, or intimidating, or uninspiring. A website called "instant riches without work" will get more hits. But the results of succeeding in your personal finances are indeed exciting.
You have to know about this topic. There is no report, book, program, or financial advisor which can remove the responsbility for your future. At the end of the day your financial advisor is primarily concerned about his finances, not yours. If you end up with nothing in the end, the advisor is not liable. You don't have to master a bunch of complicated terms or spend a lot of time. But it is unwise to continue life as normal and shy away from the topic.
Old fashioned is good. Really there is nothing new under the sun. There are no short cuts, no quick riches, no hidden secrets, no results without work. The closest you'll get to that is when compound interest kicks in later in the process. So we stick to the time-tested basics.
Humility is good. Your value as an individual has nothing to do with the kind of car you drive or the kind of house you have. You may impress your friends and colleagues - we are all affected by appearances - but in reality we all need to be satisfied with driving a used car, living in a smaller house if need be, and spending less money in general.
Greed and hurry are risky. Investing in the market, or building a small business, or setting up a source of side income from your kitchen table - all these will have ups and downs. Slow and steady - and ignoring the daily fluctuations in the stock market - is the way to go. In fact, we don't watch the financial news on television, and we advise you not to either.
Life is not about money. We need money to live, to pay for housing and food, and to take care of our needs and to prepare for our future when we won't be able to work, or choose not to. But financial success does not mean your personal or family life will be a success. We have to keep our priorities in line.
